All too often, cacti and succulent plants scare away novice plant enthusiasts. However, as they are not poisonous, growing them is not a risk but is rather quite simple. The most common error consists in keeping them at excessively high temperatures or watering them too much.
These plants should be kept in a well-lit, well-ventilated environment. They should also be potted in soil that does not retain water.
Most cacti need a break in winter without being watered and at a cool temperature (a few degrees above 0°C is generally sufficient).
Many gardens of the Mediterranean region prove these plants’ hardiness to open air and in special climates, of which the defining characteristic is a rainy season in winter.
